Every year, CAUSINDY brings together 30 of the brightest emerging leaders from Australia and Indonesia. With the Emerging Leaders Program, we want to bring that knowledge and experience into the classroom — sharing experiences, opportunities and perspectives on the Australia-Indonesia relationship.
CAUSINDY’s Engaging Future Leaders Program will produce a series of videos and resources for school teachers. We hope these will help to inspire your students to start thinking about where an interest in the Australia-Indonesia could take their future.
That could mean learning the language, studying overseas, or building a career — we want to support the next generation of young people in the Australia-Indonesia relationship.
Renowned debating societies from the University of Sydney and the University of Indonesia will it battle it on Saturday September 3rd. The Bilateral Debate will be held in telkomtelstra’s Jakarta office and Telstra’s Sydney office where the teams will debate via a special live link-up.
In a 3 person a side debate, debaters will discuss the topic “Economic diplomacy is more effective than cultural diplomacy as a tool to strengthen the Australian Indonesian bilateral relationship”. The affirmative and negative sides will be announced 30mins before the debate

Teddy Triatmojo is a recipient of the Australia Awards Scholarship and is currently completing his Master of Strategic Public Relations at the University of Sydney. He was also chosen to participate in the President’s Speech Writer Program at Georgetown University @triatmojo
Sarah Mourney won the Australian Intervarsity Debating championships in 2014 and was the best speaker at the Australasian Women’s Debating Championship. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Sydney and wrote her thesis on Indonesian food policy. Sarah currently works at the Department of Premier and Cabinet NSW on social policy.
Owen James has debated for the University of Sydney at both the Australasian and Australian championships. He is studying a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws and majors in Indonesian Studies. He is also a recent ACICIS alumni who studied for 6 months at Universitas Gadjah Mada in 2016.
Mentor – Fajar Hirawan, a CAUSINDY delegate in 2013 and current Ph.D. student in Economics at USYD who has volunteered to mentor the sydney debating team on the day of the event. During his study, Fajar is also active as a teaching assistant at School of Economics USYD. In Indonesia, he has been working as a researcher at Department of Economics, Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Jakarta since 2006. His research interests mainly focus on Indonesian economy, food security and international trade @fbhirawan
Gabriel Charlotte Gabriel has won numerous regional and global competitions and has been part of the English Debating Society at University of Indonesia for 3 years. Gabriel has completed several internships including Jakarta Govenor’s office UNDP working on REDD+. She is completing Bachelor of Psychology, University of Indonesia.
Boby Andika Ruitang Boby is a final year student majoring in Clinical and Social Psychology at Universitas Indonesia. He has been a part of Adjudication Cores across Asia and Indonesia 48 times (and counting). Boby has acted as Tournament Director. He’s been in a steady relationship with debating for 9 years and there’s no sign of them breaking up any time soon! @bobyandika
Mentor – Enda Ginting, Assistant Deputy at the Office of the President of the Republic of Indonesia focusing on Food and Nutrition Agricultural Production program, fiscal reforms, and the sustainable environmental financing portfolio. He was a CAUSINDY delegate in 2014. Enda holds a masters in Economics, Finance and Management from the University of Bristol, UK
